Olympic Coach’s Former Apprentice Honors His Memory: Starts Own Team

Boca Raton/Deerfield Beach, FL

Who:  After the April death of six-time Olympic swimming coach Michael Lohberg (former coach for Olympian Dara Torres), his six-year apprentice, Kathleen Prindle, has founded an elite USA-Swimming competitive training program. The team will launch with several top athletes, notably 25-year-old post-graduate (Arizona) Julie Stupp, four-time Olympic Trials qualifier and finalist and 12-time NCAA All-American.

What:  Performance Aquatics, a year-round, competitive USA Swimming club, addresses the individualized training needs of highly motivated athletes.  Through expert one-on-one coaching, disciplined high-performance training, and extraordinary focus on technique, PAQ provides swimmers the opportunity and multi-dimensional support necessary to perform to their maximum potential in the water, and out.  The small team size allows athletes to receive individualized attention to effectively nurture their developmental needs.

When/Where:  Performance Aquatics, or “PAQ”, is based in east Boca Raton and northeast Broward County, and will launch with a select group of athletes on Sept 1.  The main pool/office will be at Grandview Preparatory School in eastern Boca Raton.

Why:  “At Performance Aquatics, we are committed to the philosophy that the pursuit of true athletic excellence requires personal attention,” Prindle said.  “Thebest way for me to honor Michael’s memory is to use all those gifts he instilled in me and offer those to the community. There is so much swimming talent in South Florida but its important these athletes get one-on-one training and the additional support they need to succeed not only in the pool, but in life.”
